Rescheduling gorilla permits in Uganda -Uganda Safari News
A gorilla permit is an official document in Uganda that allows one to trek mountain gorillas in Uganda’s gorilla tracking
destination of Bwindi Impenetrable National park or Mgahinga gorilla
national park. It is now very easy to reschedule or change the date of
gorilla permits to new dates in Uganda provided one has a genuine
reason.
At first when gorilla trekking safaris in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park started, it was very hard to change the gorilla permit dates once bought but of recent, Uganda Wildlife Authority a body responsible for selling all gorilla trekking permits in Uganda has relaxed or loosen their stance and now visitors can reschedule or change gorilla permits from one date to another.
Currently, Uganda Wildlife Authority gives room for a person or Tour Operators to change or move gorilla permit once. This can be done by writing a letter addressed to the Director of tourism business and development at Uganda Wildlife Authority kindly requesting him to authorize rescheduling of permits from the first date to the new proposed date. The letter must entail substantial reason as to why you are interested in changing the gorilla permit dates. You are also required to provide all original receipts as given by Uganda Wildlife Authority. Once the Director of Tourism business and development receives this letter, he will then instruct the reservations and Information Communication departments to change 0r rescued everything in the system to the new proposed dates. There conditions and terms that apply to changing or rescheduling of gorilla permits so if you encounter any challenge, please let us know so that we can assist you in this endeavor.
Kindly note that the above changing/ rescheduling only favors those booking for high season gorilla permits. The high season gorilla permits starts from the months of January, February, June, July, August, September, October and December. Discounted gorilla permits issued in the low season of April, May and November are none refundable/changeable and hence once booked visitor can not make any change.
Uganda Wildlife Authority has had to relax its stance on gorilla permit rescheduling due to the fact that they have realized that there so many genuine reasons that make visitors not to trek gorillas on the first reserved date and some of these include, visitors becoming sick closer to trekking date, and yet they are not allowed to enter the forest to trek mountain gorillas when they are sick. There has been a challenge of serious disease like Ebola that has affected Africa resulting to cancellation or postponement of the gorilla safaris to Uganda so UWA together with Uganda Tour Operators agreed on solution that for those who are ready to undertake gorilla safari to Uganda at a later date should be granted an opportunity. Some instances, terror alerts have resulted into gorilla trekking safaris being forwarded to other dates and as such, one is given an opportunity to change his or her own gorilla permits. The government however encourages all tourists to always have travel insurance in order to avoid such unforeseen circumstances.
