The
newly handed Mirama Hills one stop frontier post between Uganda and
Rwanda is one of thirteen (13) boarders in the East African region which
is established to link both business and leisure travelers on
Uganda safaris
but crossing borders to Rwanda. The one stop boarder was handed over to
the border, customers and security organizations or agencies from the
two countries of Uganda and Rwanda. Funded by Trade Mark East Africa,
the one stop frontier post is one of the mechanisms initiated or
introduced to ease the flow of travelers and goods when trading across
the east African region. In regard to tourism, the border post will help
to ease the movement of visitors on
Safari tours to Uganda but
crossing to Rwanda by reducing the red tape and reduce time wastage
when crossing the border from Uganda to Rwanda. Local citizens of Uganda
and Rwanda can now cross the boarders of the two countries by help of
the ID cards and for the case of Ugandans one can even use voter’s cards
after passport requirements were ignored during the Coalition of the
Willing, aka Northern Corridor Integration Projects countries fast
tracked the movement of people and goods, something the East African
Community at large had for long failed to do.
Mirama Hills is the nearest option for visitors on
Uganda safaris but
crossing to Rwanda. The area is anticipated to also see the new
Standard Gauge Railway line from the frontier of Uganda with Kenya, via
Uganda’s Capital city Kampala and on to Kigali in Rwanda, built here and
due to the terrain not likely to continue to Kabale from where the
Gatuna frontier can be easily accessed.
Travelers can now even
transfer from Uganda to Rwanda through the boarder by road transport
because roads on both sides have been constructed .hence for budget
travelers who feel like using public means can use the bus companies
transporting travelers from Uganda to Rwanda or from Rwanda to Uganda.
The cost of construction of the new frontier post was given as just
under 8 million US Dollars and the construction works as handled by
Ugandan based company Dott Services construction ltd.
