Kibale Forest National Park Uganda

From the Kanyanchu river camp area which is the focal point for chimpanzee habituation, Kibale forest national park offers you a long-awaited opportunity to trek and glimpse at the chimpanzees. Blessed with over 1200 chimpanzees, Kibale forest park is the excellent and busiest chimp trekking point. Situated in south western Uganda, on a Uganda wildlife safari to Kibale forest, you go for chimpanzee trekking by 8:00am spending 2-4hours in the tropical jungle and a single hour in the presence of the chimpanzees. On the other side, you can go for chimpanzee habituation that starts at 6:00am till 7:00pm both activities available year-round.

Budongo Forest Reserve Uganda

Budongo Forest Reserve specifically Kaniyo Pabidi forest close to Kichumbanyobo gate of Murchison Falls National Park is another excellent spot for chimpanzee trekking in Africa. Close to Lake Albert, this outstanding reserve is home to over 600 chimps that tourists can trek on either a half day or full day chimpanzee trekking tour. The canopy is thick and an amazing forest to visit with no worries on how to get there because of the favorable terrain.

Queen Elizabeth National Park Uganda

If you haven’t trekked chimpanzees yet in a valley then this is one amazing primate trekking experience to undertake on a wildlife safari in Uganda at Kyambura Gorge of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The Kyambura Gorge is a deep, forested cut within Queen Elizabeth national park with a small community of chimps that were isolated from the Maramagambo forest. You can decide to take a nature walk in the gorge also known as valley of apes and still leave with great memories.

Apart from the wild or natural habitat, you can still sight chimpanzees at Ngamba island chimpanzee sanctuary which is a rescue place for orphaned chimpanzees in Uganda. Situated on one of the islands on Lake Victoria, many tourists go here for a 1 day Ngamba chimpanzee tour as they sight the surviving chimps here display their character.

Though Uganda is undoubtably the best destination for primate tracking due to its prime habitats, it’s not the only option in Africa, as tourists have other spots in East and Central Africa to track chimpanzees. Mountain Gorilla Behavior,Diet,Threats and Predators
