Jeje Odongo has said that people who were illegally staying in Uganda at the time of the closure of airports and borders early in the year, will have to seek clearance to travel. This is one of the guidelines that the ministry has put in place to implement the presidential directive to reopen all border as the country eases restrictions imposed to forestall the spread of coronavirus disease- COVID-19. Mountain Kilimanjaro Catches Fire – Residents, Students & Firefighters Battle it Out!

  On Sunday 11 th October on Mount Kilimanjaro; Africa’s highest mountain caught fire and the flames could be seen from miles away. A storm of hard winds on Sunday spread fire on the mountain and since then, a number of people have been battling it out. The cause of the fire has yet to be established however, there are no injuries or deaths have been reported as well as property damage. This wildfire started at the Whona area; a rest centre for Kilimanjaro mountain climbers using Mandara and Horombo, two of several routes up the mountain. Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA), one of the Tanzania authorities have undertaken all precautions necessary to ensure the safety of Tanzania safari visitors and their equipment. There are over 500 volunteers including students that have offered to put out a fire on Mount Kilimanjaro. They were working with local authorities to help deliver food and water to the firefighters. World Health Organization Chief Warns Against the Herd Immunity Approach

  Despite the researcher's argument that allowing the infection to spread in populations that are not vulnerable will help build up herd immunity, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned against suggestions that “herd immunity” approach might be a realistic strategy to stop the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, saying such an approach is “simply unethical”. Speaking to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO Director-General said “Herd immunity is achieved by protecting people from a virus, not by exposing them to it.” “Allowing a dangerous virus that we don’t fully understand to run free is simply unethical and it’s not an option.” This approach has never been used as a strategy for responding to an outbreak, putting this pandemic aside.   About Bugoma Central Forest Reserve Bugoma Central Forest Reserve is one of the protected tropical forests in Uganda. Bugoma forest was gazetted as a protected forest in the 1930s. In 2002, it was put under the mandate of the National Forestry Authority (NFA). This tropical rain forest is situated in Hoima district just in the east of Lake Albert, southwest of Hoima and northeast of Kyenjojo towns. Bugoma forest covers a surface area of about 41,142 hectares (411.42 km2) and 65,000 hectares (650 km2). With this area, this forest is believed to be home to over 23 mammal species, 225 bird species, and 260 species of trees. The tropical forest is also home to about 500 chimpanzees (10% of the Ugandan chimp population), making the forest a chimpanzee sanctuary and they have been undergoing habituation since January 2016.   Uganda Celebrates the Safer Tourism Seal Award   The Government of Uganda together with the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) yet again have something great to celebrate and be proud of following the recent achievement of being awarded the Safer Tourism Evaluated Seal by Safer Tourism organization under Rebuilding Tourism. The Uganda Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lilly Ajarova and Quality Assurance Officer Samora Semakula applied for the Safer Tourism Seal on 24 th August 2020. In addition to the self-assessment required, UTB also included a request for an independent evaluation. This Safer Tourism Seal is available for any safari destination and tourism stakeholder based on self-assessment. This Uganda Tourism Board achievement shows the importance of evaluation, and commitment. This helps to double-check on policies in place. Simplified Uganda Standard Operating Procedures or Guidelines for Incoming & Outgoing Travellers

  Following the reopening of Uganda’s Entebbe International Airport on 1 st  October to revive Uganda’s tourism, a number of COVID-19 safari travel measures have been put in place for travellers. These Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’S) were passed after consulting the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). According to the Civil Aviation Authority, these measures have been undertaken to control the spread of COVID-19. These SOP’s are to be followed by passengers arriving and departing at the Entebbe International Airport and at other border points of entry or exit either by land or water. Standard Operating Procedures for Incoming Passengers Airlines shall not board any passenger coming to Uganda without a negative COVID-19 PCR test. An arriving passenger without the negative COIVD-19 PCR test shall be denied entry and the airline shall be obliged to take back the passenger.
