Pope Francis is set to return to Uganda in July this Year! -2019

Pope Francis, the leader of the catholic church is set to return to Uganda in July this year. Pope Francis first visited the country in November 2015, making him the third catholic head to visit Uganda after Pope Paul VI who visited Uganda in July 1969 to preside over SECAM’s inauguration in 1969 in Kampala during his maiden Africa trip and Pope John Paul II visited Uganda in February 1993. The pope came to Uganda in 2015 to take part in the Uganda martyrs 50 years celebrations at Namugongo martyrs’ shrine.

African bishops under their umbrella body, the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM), and the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC), the assembly of Catholic leaders, have invited Pope Francis to visit Uganda again. The visit scheduled for late July, according to official accounts and highly placed sources in the Church, will coincide with SECAM’s golden jubilee celebrations.

The archbishop of Kampala, Cypria Kizito Lwanga confirmed that the Pope accepted the invitation extended to him by a bloc of African Catholic bishops, the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) which will converge in Uganda to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary. However, the number of days he will be in this country are not yet confirmed.

The theme for this July’s celebrations was “Church-Family of God in Africa, Celebrate your Jubilee! Proclaim Jesus Christ your Savior.” The monthly thematic celebrations will be held in all Catholic Church dioceses across the continent until July 2019.

Preparations are already underway and the golden jubilee road map is already being drawn as well as the Kick start celebrations.

The pope’s visit is a great move in marketing Uganda as a country and in terms of religious tourism as well as the other tourism sector that includes; Uganda gorilla safaris, Uganda wildlife safaris, Uganda birding safaris, Uganda adventure safaris etc.
