The 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour takes you to Lake Mburo and Queen Elizabeth National Park for a Uganda wildlife safari and for an adventure trip to Uganda's highest snow peak mountain; Mountain Rwenzori. This mountain is also referred to as the Mountain of the moon making it a unique destination for hikers who are interested in climbing safaris Uganda or mountaineering safaris Uganda over small, medium sized hills and high mountains. You will tour Lake Mburo National Park for a boat cruise and game drive where you will see several animals like elands, impalas, zebras etc and then drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park for a boat cruise along the 45km Kazinga Channel; a river that joins Lake Edward to Lake George. You will do a Uganda wildlife safari game drive in this park as well as in Ishasha where you will search for the tree climbing Lions. This is where your safari will end and after you will return to Kampala where your safari will end with en route at the equator in Kayabwe.  Mountain Rwenzori climbing adventure Uganda you will go for a hiking adventure to the snow capped Rwenzoris' highest peak; Margherita. Detailed Itinerary of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour

Day 1 of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour: Transfer from Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park for an afternoon boat cruise along the lake with a stopover at the equator

Wake up early in the morning and have breakfast at your hotel.  You be picked by your driver guide at your hotel at around 6am in the morning, meet and greet and after have a short briefing about your safari in Uganda by your Uganda safari guide. After the briefing, you will embark on your journey to Lake Mburo National Park for a boat cruise in the afternoon along the Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara highway. The journey may last about 4-5 hours with a break at the equator where you will stop for a polar water experiment, photographs and souvenir purchase. On your way there, you will enjoying beautiful scenery of the rolling hills that will get you enjoy your journey. You will undertake a boat cruise along Lake Mburo inside the park for about 2 hours. Expect to see lots of water animals including the crocodiles, hippos and other animals along the banks. After the boat, you will drive to your lodging facility, check in, relax, dine and rest.

Day 2 of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour : Do a morning game drive in the park, have lunch, do an evening game drive and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Wake up very early in the morning and prepare for your early morning game drive in the park that will last about 2-3 hours. Expect to see several wildlife including the Impalas and elands that can only  be found in this park. Other animals to be seen in the park include; Burchelle zebras, warthogs, several birds and many more. After your game drive, you will return to the lodge for breakfast, have lunch do an afternoon game drive as you set off for Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 3 of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour : Do morning game drive in the park and an afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga channel

Wake up early in the morning, have a cup of coffee, depart the your hotel/lodge with your guide  for your early morning game drive in the park along the Kasenyi trail. the game drive will last about 3-4 hours depnding on your choice. As part of your adventure, expect to see lots of animals that habit the park including; the Uganda kobs, elephants, warthogs, among the many and several bird life as well. Return to the lodge for proper breakfast and lunch and drive to Mweya for your afternoon boat at 2pm for about 2 hours. During your cruise, you will sight the highest hippo concentration in Africa, several crocodiles in the water, birds along the Kazinga channel, as well as animals that come to quench their thirst along the river banks. After the boat ride, you will do a simple game drive as you drive back to your lodge where you will dine and rest.

Day 4 of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour : Do a morning game drive in the park, drive to Ishasha in search for the tree climbing lions, have lunch and then drive to Kasese 

Very early in the morning after a cup of coffee at the lodge, you will set out with your guide to the Kasenyi trail for your early morning game drive to catch the early morning risers as they set out to catch their prey.You will see lots of animals including Uganda Kobs, antelopes, Waterbuck, Warthogs, Lions, Leopards, Hyenas, Giant Forest Hogs and a great variety of antelopes. After your game drive, return to the lodge for proper breakfast, rest and have lunch. After lunch, you will drive to Ishasha, the only spot where you will find tree climbing lions. Later drive to your lodge in Kasese where you will dine and rest.

Day 5 of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour : Climb- to Nyabitaba (2650m) using Bakonjo homestead

After your early morning breakfast at your lodging facility, you will transfer with your guide to Nyakalengija trailhead (1600m) that will act as your starting point for your hiking safari in Uganda. You will be briefed again by your hiking guide that will lead you up the mountain and after the briefing, he will lead you to begin hiking up to Nyabitaba hut where you will spend your night. During your hike, you will walk through the banana sambas along the steep foothills, passing through the typical Bakonjo homesteads. You will follow the trail along the Mubuku River, cross the Mahoma River where you will climb steeply through break palm leaf slopes and podocarps forest to Nyabitaba Hut for diner and your overnight.

Day 6 of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour : Leave Nyabitaba (2650m) and move to the John Matte hut (3350m)

In the morning after breakfast, you will depart Nyabitaba following the trail that slopes down through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge situated below the confluence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. Continue with your journey passing through the bamboo forest, where you will cross through a long and exhausting stretch of slippery moss-covered rock. As you approach the Nyamileju rock shelter, Mount Stanley and Mount Speke can be seen as your approaching the zone of the giant heather, lobelia and groundsel. Arrive at John Matte Hut after passing through the tiring swamp, for dinner and overnight at the Hut.

Day 7 of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour : Depart John Matte Hut for Bujuku Hut

Have breakfast at the hut; John Matte Hut, use the trail that drops to cross the Bujuku River. Take the upper Bigo Swamp that will give you way to Bujuku Lake, giving you view of Mount Baker to the South and Mt Stanley to the west. The Bujuku Hut is well located in the shadow of Mount Baker and Mount Speke. Arrive, have dinner and overnight there.

Day 8 of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour : Leave Bujuku Hut for Mount Stanley

Have breakfast and embark on the trail that leads you to mountain Stanley climbing the steep slopes west of the lake. You will hike passing through the magical groundsels gully ascending to Scott-Elliot Pass situated about at 4372m. As you arrive at the gully, take a metal ladder that will take you over a steep section after which the trail splits into two. The right leads up to Elena Hut and Mount Stanley on a steep trail over large boulders. The left path leads to Scott. Elliot passes and down to Kitandara Lakes. Arrive at Mount Stanley for your night.

Day 9 of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour : Leave Mount Stanley and go to the Margherita summit.

On this day, you will climb to the Margherita peaks (5109m). you will use the trail that continues to the base of the Stanley Glacier. It is roughly a 4-7 hour walk to the summit of Margherita. It is only for the physically fit and is a technical climb which requires roping up, crampons and appropriate equipment for cold, windy and icy conditions. It is best to attempt the final climb in a minimum group of 4- two climbers and two guides; climb on to the glacier, cross the Stanly Plateau and proceed with the ascent. Returning to Scott- Elliot pass, descend to the Kitandara Hut for overnight, past the Kitandara Lakes.

Day 10 of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour : Climb Mt Stanleyto Guy Yeoman Hut (3260m)

From Kitandara, the trail ascends steeply up the headwall, spreading out from the base of Mount Baker and continuing along the south side of the to Fresh field pass. From the pass, the long muddy descent continues, passing the rock shelter at Bujangolo, the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906.

Day 11 of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour : Climb Nyabitaba(2650m)

The path down can be slippery and muddy with little to hold on to and requires careful balancing over the vertical mud or steep rock. An overnight stop at the Nyabiaba Hut.

Day 12 of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour : Nyabitaba to Nyakalengija

Nyabitaba to Nyakalengija is about 3 hours. Nyabitaba starts the 40 minutes trial to see Lake Mahoma and back to the hut for descending to the Park Head Quarters where you will connect with your driver / guide and transfer to your lodging facility where you will rest from the long hiking days.

Day 13 of the 13 Days Rwenzori mountaineering safari Uganda & Wildlife tour : Drive back to Kampala for your flight with en route for lunch in Mbarara at the Igongo cultural centre

Have an early morning breakfast on this day, pack your bags and drive back to Kampala via the Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara highway. On your way back, you will have an en route at Igongo cultural centre for a lunch and after you set off for the final drive to Kampala/Entebbe at your hotel of stay or to the airport for your flight back home.
