This 9 Days Mount Elgon hiking safari Uganda & Jinja city tour is a safari Uganda that starts and ends in Kampala. It takes you to Eastern Uganda for a mountain climbing safari Uganda to Mount Elgon, the 4th highest standing mountain in East Africa at 4,321m. This amazing feature extinct volcano situated in Eastern Uganda along the Kenya and Ugandan border. You will hike to the highest peak Wagagai peak although it is tricky to get there so you must be fit enough. The mountain has a number of trails which hikers use to hike up the top including the sasa trail and many more. The mountain is also home to the magnificent Sipi falls, gorges, hot springs, caves, also different animal species like the elephants, small antelopes, forest monkeys, buffaloes as well as around 300 bird species. Drive from Mbale and transfer to Jinja where the 9 Days Uganda safari will end. While there, you will take a boat cruise to the source of the Nile, do a horse riding safari, quad biking and after return to Kampala for your flight back home or to hotel as advised. Accommodation on this safari will depend on your choice ranging from luxury, mid range and budget.

Day 1: Arrive at the Entebbe International Airport and transfer to your hotel

Detailed Itinerary of the 9 Days Mount Elgon hiking safari Uganda & Jinja city tour

Day 1: Arrive at the Entebbe International Airport and transfer to your hotel

Arrive at the Entebbe International Airport where you will meet your drive guide, meet and greet and transfer to your hotel booked for you. Upon arrival at the hotel, your guide will give you a short briefing about your mountaineering safari, after the briefing, you will check in, dine and rest.  

Day 2: Transfer from Kampala - Budadiri to Sasa Camp 2900m Early in the morning after an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked by your driver guide, meet and greet and after he will give you a short briefing about your 4 days Uganda hiking safari to Mountain Elgon. After the briefing, you will set off for your journey to Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda, a 5-hour journey passing through the Mabira Forest, through the adrenaline land to Mbale our Uganda safari destination. Arrive in Mbale, have lunch at a hotel, and transfer to your hotel that was prior booked for your stay that day.  

Day 3: Transfer from your hotel to the Budadiri to Sasa Camp 2900m Wake up early in the morning, have breakfast at your hotel and wait to be picked by your guide from the hotel. Once picked, you will set off for your hiking safari Uganda to the sasa camp of mountain Elgon will start from Budadiri 1250m situated close to Mbale town. You may arrange with your guide for incase you need porters. You will then be led by a hiking guide through the thick forests, listen to some bird sounds, as well see several new plant species. The distance is about 8km and takes average 7 to 8 hours, 1700m walk. Arrive at the Sasa camp 2900m, freshen up, dine and relax.  

Day 4: Depart Sasa camp to Mude Camp - 3500m After breakfast at the Sasa camping site, you will proceed through the forest to the Mude Cave walking for about 4 to 5 hours. Arrive at the camp site, freshen up, dine and rest.

 Day 5: You will hike from Mude Camp to the Wagagai Peak 4321m then return to Mude or to Sasa After breakfast you will walk through the moorland zone up to the main peak; Wagagai, take photos and after you will return to the Mude campsite for dinner and overnight. This journey may take about 8 to 9 hours of elevation - 820m. During the time of descending, you will return to the mude camp site or you will have the choice to return by the Sasa Trail or head onwards across the caldera.  

Day 6: transfer from Mude Camp back to Budadiri where you started Have a relaxed breakfast at the camp site, pack your bags and prepare to descend down to Budadiri where we started the hike and your gude will drive you back to Mbale at your hotel. Arrive at the hotel, check in and rest.

Day 7: Drive Jinja for a boat ride to the source of the Nile

Have relaxed breakfast at your hotel of stay, pack your lugage in the car and set off for Jinja via the Mbale - Tirinyi road, a distance that covers about 145km in about 3 hours. Upon arrival, you will drive to River Nile for your lunch and afternoon boat cruise that will take you to the source of the Nile. The boat lasts about 1 hour, return and take a look at the craft shops around, watch the cultural performers and after drive to your lodge that was booked for your stay that night.

Day 8: Do a horse riding safari in the morning and Quad biking in the afternoon

Wake up early in the morning, have breakfast and drive to the horse riding station for your horse riding safari in the morning. You will be briefed about how to handle the horses and ride for about 2-3 hours. You will have have lunch and after you will go for your adventurous Quad biking safari along the river, retire from the activity and return to your lodge, dine and rest.  

Day 9: Drive back to Kampala for your flight back home After breakfast at the hotel, you will pack your bags in the car and you will be driven by your driver guide back to Kampala to the airport for your flight back home or to your hotel of stay depending on your choice.
