This 10 Days Birding Safari Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari is a Uganda birding safari tour and Gorilla trekking safari in Uganda. To the most diverse safari parks, this 10 days safari takes you to Mabamba wetland which is the closest spot to sight a shoebill stork from Kampala then to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which is host to several elusive wildlife and bird species inclusive of which are half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas and 23 out of 24 Albertine rift endemic bird species. You also go birding to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park which is the only home to golden monkeys in Uganda and where mountain gorillas and golden monkeys co-exist hence the slogan "where gold meets silver".

Your Uganda birding safari starts with a pick up from Entebbe International Airport for a transfer to a booked accommodation facility where you spend the night. The next morning your birding safari driver guide picks you up for a drive to Mabamba wetland 58.7km away for birding on about 1hour 39minutes drive. From Mabamba, the next morning you are driven to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park where you go bird watching the next day. From Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, you are driven to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where you go birding in search of the 23 out of the 24 Albertine rift endemics then Gorilla trekking. You then return to Entebbe International Airport for a departure flight.

Day 1:Arrive at Entebbe International Airport then after transfer to a lodging faciity in Kampala-Uganda's capital.

Day 2: From Kampala, you go birding in Mabamba wetland in the morning then the adjacent Nkima forest in the evening.

Day 3: On this day you are transferred to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in the far south Western Uganda.

Day 4: You will spend the day birding in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park within the trails of Mt. Sabinyo.

Day 5: With a drive to Bwindi impenetrable national park’s Ruhija sector, you go bird watching en route via Echuya forest.

Day 6: After breakfast, you go bird watching at mubwindi swamp

Day 7: You are driven to Bwindi’s Buhoma sector for bird watching as you go birding en route.

Day 8: With your birding guide you go bird watching to the birding trails of Buhoma sector.

Day 9: By 8:00am, you will be at Bwindi impenetrable national park for gorilla trekking in Buhoma sector.

Day 10: From Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, you are driven back to Entebbe International Airport for a late departure flight.

Day 1 of the 10 Days Birding Safari Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari/Uganda Birding Tour

You arrive at Entebbe International Airport close to Lake Victoria-Africa's largest fresh water lake where you meet a professional English speaking birding guide for a transfer to a booked accommodation facility in Kampala-Uganda's capital. Using a 4x4 safari vehicle, you are driven for about 47km on a 52minutes drive to the bustling capital as you see people do their daily activities in markets along the roadside. Arriving at the hotel, you check in, relax, have dinner and rest from jet lag as you prepare for a road trip the next day.

After early morning breakfast at your lodging facility, your guide picks you up for a drive to Mabamba wetland. Here you take a boat/canoe as a local guide helps you paddle through the marshes of the wetland in search of the elusive shoebill stork getting its early morning catch. After birding in Mabamba wetland, you have lunch then after go for an evening birding experience at Nkima Forest as you sight several forest bird species. In the evening, you rest your lenses as you spend the night at a close accommodation facility.

Day 3 of the 10 Days Birding Safari Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari/Uganda Birding Tour

Early morning after breakfast at your lodging facility, you are then transferred to the far south western part of Uganda. After about 63.9km on 1 hour 16 minutes’ drive, you have a stop at the equator line in Kayabwe where you spend about 30minutes taking pictures on the line that divides the world. You can also do some simple water experiments that prove the forces here. The drive continues with lunch taken en route continuing to the beautiful terraced hills of Kigezi. Arriving in the evening, you check in, have dinner and spend the night at a booked accommodation in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

Day 4 of the 10 Days Birding Safari Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari/Uganda Birding Tour

After breakfast, your driver guide will drive with you to Ntebeko Camp (trek start point) in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park for a biding tour to the trails on Mt. Sabinyo. You take the gorge rail that loops half way up Mt. Sabinyo within one of the most beautiful protected areas in Uganda surrounded by a variety of montane habitats and also a Uganda gorilla safari destination. During this birding experience you look out for bird species like the Rwenzori Turaco, White-eyed Slaty Flycatcher, Dusky Turtle Dove, Cape Robin-Chat, Grassland Pipit and a lot more bird species. You then return to your lodging facility where you spend the night.

Day 5 of the 10 Days Birding Safari Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari/Uganda Birding Tour

Leaving Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, you go with your Uganda birding tour guide for a birding experience in the woodlands of Echuya forest as you drive to Ruhija sector of Bwindi forest. You then continue with the drive to Ruhija and during this time you look out for birds like the Handsome Francolin, Olive Pigeon, Western Green Tinkerbird and many more. Arriving in the evening you check into an accommodation in Bwindi impenetrable National Park.

After breakfast, you shall walk down to the Mubwindi Swamp trail in Ruhija where you look out for birds like the Black-billed Turaco, Western Green Tinkerbird, Fine-banded Woodpecker, African Green-Broadbill, Yellow-streaked Greenbul, African Hill Babbler, Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Grauer’s Warbler, Grauer’s Rush Warbler and several other bird species. In the evening you then return to your lodging facility where you spend the night.

To another sector of Bwindi impenetrable national park known as Buhoma, you go birding along the route with possible sightings of several bird species. Birds like Olive Thrush, Tambourine Dove, Cassin’s-grey Flycatcher, Black Bee-eater, Red-throated Wryneck, Toro Olive-Greenbul, White-starred Robin, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Grauer’s Warbler, Chubb’s Cisticola, Banded Prinia and many more are some of the bird species in this area. You arrive in the evening and spend the night at a booked place to stay in this region of Bwindi impenetrable national park.

Day 8 of the 10 Days Birding Safari Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari/Uganda Birding Tour

On this day after an early breakfast, you go birding to the main trail in Bwindi Impenetrable national park’s Buhoma sector. Here you look out for bird species like the African Broadbill, Black Bee-Eater, African Goshawk, Bar-tailed Trogon, White-headed Wood-hoopoe, Tinkerbirds and Barbets, Woodpeckers, assorted Greenbuls, White-bellied Robin-Chat, Red-throated Alethe, Chapin’s Flycatcher, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Black-faced Rufous Warbler and many more. In the evening, you have dinner and spend the night at your prior accommodation facility.

Day 9 of the 10 Days Birding Safari Uganda Gorilla Trekking Safari/Uganda Birding Tour

After early morning breakfast, then it’s time to meet the awesome mountain gorillas of Bwindi. Anticipate to be up early for breakfast then a drive to Buhoma sector of Bwindi park for the start of the trek to meet the mountain gorillas. Before you get into the gorilla habitat, you have a 30minutes briefing by the park rangers on a Uganda gorilla trekking safari etiquette at 8:00am and gorilla family allocation according to physical ability. About 2-8 hours are spent in the jungle and only 1 out of them in the presence of these gentle giants. During the trek, you come along several bird species. A Uganda gorilla trekking certificate is received at the end of the trek at the park headquarters where you find your driver guide waiting to transfer you to your lodging facility for an overnight stay.
