Detailed Itinerary of the 6 Days Rwanda gorilla safari & Akagera Nyungwe wildlife tour/ 6 Days gorilla safari Rwanda
Day 1: Arrive in Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park to your lodging facility that was prior booked for stay.
On arrival at Kigali International airport, you will meet our professional Rwanda safari guide who will take you through a short briefing about your 6 Days Rwanda gorilla safari & Akagera Nyungwe wildlife tour/ 6 Days gorilla safari Rwanda. After the briefing, you will set off for Volcanoes National Park at the lodge that was booked for you. Arrive, check in, relax, dine and spend your night there.
Day 2: Do a gorilla trekking safari in the Forest of Volcanoes National Park, return to the lodge and relax
You will be required to take your breakfast very early in the morning since your required to be at the park headquarters early in the morning for a briefing that starts at 8am. At around 7am, you will be picked by your safari guide together with your packed lunch to the park headquarters for your briefing at 8am from the park rangers about the do’s and don’ts of gorilla trekking. and transfer to volcanoes national park headquarters in Kinigi for briefing about a
gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda. You will then hike into the forest with the park rangers and an armed guide to search for the gorillas in their natural habitat. For conservation purposes, time spent with the gorillas is only one hour and it is advisable to carry only non-flash cameras. You will watch them feeding, eating, playing, building their nests, and many more. This activity roughly takes about 2-8hours depending on where the gorillas are. In the evening after the trek, you may go for cultural encounters and interact with the local people. (optional). Transfer back to the lodge, freshen up, dine and relax.
Day 3: In the morning after your breakfast, transfer to Akagera National Park to your prior booked accommodation
In the morning, have breakfast at your will at your hotel, prepare to set for Akagera National Park Rwanda where you will have the opportunity to view the Big 5 game animals. You will drive East, through the attractive rolling plains, characterized of dense, lighter acacia woodland, broad-leafed woodland and rolling grassland. As you approach Akagera National Park, expect to see extensive series of lakes linked by papyrus swamps forming an extensive wetland. Check in lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Do a morning game drive in the park and afternoon game drive in the park, retire and transfer to your booked lodge for dinner and overnight stay
Start your day with early morning breakfast at the lodge before joining your ranger in your open safari
4x4 land cruiser/4x4 super custom/4x4minivan/4x4 safari van depending on the number of people for your morning game drive in the park. This half day game drive will offer you opportunity to spot a variety of wild animals including elephants, buffalos, lions, Masai giraffe, gazelles, impala, baboons, oribi, Burchell’s zebra, topi, bush baby, leopard and bushbuck. Later in afternoon after your game drive, you will return to the lodge for your lunch.
After your lunch, proceed for a boat cruise along Lake Ihema that lasts about 2hours, a ride that will bring you close to the water animals like Crocodiles and Hippos, as well as large concentration of bird life. The park has over 525 species identified bird species with unique species like the Shoe billed stock, papyrus gonolek among the many. This park has Endemics include the jacanas, ibis, sand pipers and herons. Retire from the boat cruise and return to your lodge for dinner and overnight as you do a simple game drive.
Day 5: Transfer from Akagera National Park to Nyungwe Forest National Park to your lodging facility
Have breakfast in the morning at the lodge, prepare to set off for Nyungwe Forest National Park for an unquestionably incomparable experience of
chimpanzee trekking Rwanda. The drive takes about 293km covering it in about 7 hours. Arrive at the park and check in your accommodation and relax. Or you may decide to take an afternoon nature walk through the nearby forest for a picturesque view, bird watching and photography. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at lodge.
Day 6: Do chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest, have lunch and go for your canopy walk in the afternoon and then return to Kigali to your hotel or late flight at the airport
Wake up to an early morning breakfast at your lodge, transfer with your driver guide to the park headquarters for your chimpanzee trekking activity. This chimpanzee trekking Rwanda safari starts at 8am with a briefing for the rangers. The rangers will then lead you to the forest to see the chimpanzees all the way through the jungle forest, hiking in the steep slopes amidst several sightings for about 2-5 hours. Once you spot them, you will be stunned by the way the chimps play around in the trees with their human like characters. As part of this adventure, you will also spot many other primate species like, black and white colobus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, the wild chimpanzees and many others. Retire for your lunch.
In the afternoon at 2pm, you will start your canopy walk in the forest that you explored early in the morning as you trekked the chimpanzees, walking on a bridge that is about 50m above the ground and 200meters long. This is a breathtaking experience that cannot be compared to any other activity in this park. The 2 hours walk starts and ends at the Uwinka tourist reception center at the park headquarters. During this walk, you will sight variety of bird species that will be passing by, birds in the trees, and several tree species. Retreat from the activity and return to your lodge for dinner.
After your canopy walk, this marks the end of our safari. You will be driven back to Kigali to your hotel. This journey will take about 5 hours.
