In these 6 days, you will enjoy eastern lowland gorilla trekking Congo in Kahuzi Biega National Park and Mountain gorilla trekking Congo in Virunga National Park.  Just like Uganda Rwanda mountain gorilla safari tours, Congo is blessed with lowland gorillas that attract a big number of travelers in the country. Lowland gorillas are a unique sub species of gorillas found Kahuzi Biega National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo. These apes are much bigger than the endangered mountain gorillas found in Uganda, Rwanda and some parts of Congo.

Detailed itinerary of the 6 Days Congo gorilla safari & Nyiragongo hiking safari tour

Day 1 of the 6 Days Congo gorilla safari & Nyiragongo hiking safari tour: Arrive in Kigali and transfer to Bukavu from Kigali driving for about 7 hours

Arrive at the Kigali International airport where your 6 Days will start. You will be welcomed by your driver guide upon arrival at the airport, He will give you a short briefing about this 6 days Congo gorilla safari, pack your luggage in the car and then drive to Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo via Gisenyi where you will have your lunch. You will also have beautiful scenery of lake Kivu. Arrive at the lodge that was prior booked, relax dine and sleepover.

Day 2 of the 6 Days Congo gorilla safari & Nyiragongo hiking safari tour: Wake up early in the morning and go for your Mountain gorilla Trekking safari Congo in Virunga National Park

After an early morning breakfast at your lodging facility, you and your driver guide will head to the Virunga Park headquarters with your packed lunch, water, head gears for a briefing about your gorilla tour Congo. The briefing will also talk about the do’s and don’ts about the gorilla safari tour in Virunga National Park. Set off with your ranger guide and hit the forest in search for the mountain gorillas, an activity that will last about 2-8 hours depending on where the gorillas will be. On finding the mountain gorillas, you will be allowed an hour to spend with the gorillas. Retreat from the activity and return to meet your driver will drop take you back to your lodge, Dine, relax and overnight at the lodge.

Day 3 of the 6 Days Congo gorilla safari & Nyiragongo hiking safari tour: You will hike Nyiragongo to the top

Wake up early in the morning for your breakfast at your hotel. You will be picked by our driver guide so that you can set off for Kibati Patrol post, where the Nyiragongo Volcano hiking safaris Congo start from. Hiking safaris to Nyiragongo officially start at 9am in the morning, with briefing about the hike and what to expect. After the briefing, you will start hiking with your guide and armed guards to ensure you have security. Hiking usually may last the entire day, but it depends on the pace your using which is determined by the groups’ fitness level. Please note you move in one group and rest at the same time. Arrive at the top, check into your cabins rest and get ready to be out in the night to watch the beautiful sight of the boiling lava.

Day 4 of the 6 Days Congo gorilla safari & Nyiragongo hiking safari tour: Transfer to Kahuzi Biega National Park for your gorilla trekking safari congo

In the morning after breakfast, you will descend to the bottom of the mountain and transfer to Kahuzi Biega National Park where the lowland gorillas of Congo habit. Drive to Bukavu where you will connect to the boat /ferry to cross to Bukavu town in Democratic Republic of Congo along the magnificent lake Kivu; one of Africa’s largest fresh lakes. While taking a ride on the lake, you will spot the beautiful islands and different bird species that habit there. Upon arrival in Bukavu; the nearest town to Kahuzi Biega Park. Arrive at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5 of the 6 Days Congo gorilla safari & Nyiragongo hiking safari tour: Do your Eastern lowland gorilla trekking in Kahuzi Beiga National Park Congo

Like we did when going to trek the mountain gorillas, you will have early breakfast and head to the park headquarters for briefing packed lunch. Drive to the park headquarters for about 45 minutes for briefing about the Eastern lowland gorillas. You will then set off to your fascinating experience of the lowland gorillas in the valleys of Kahuzi as you encounter different mammals, birds and primates. This experience lasts about 2-8 hours’ experience in the jungle, depending on their movement. Upon seeing them, you will watch them interact/play with each other as you take photos and videos for memories. Depending on how you will be feeling after the trek, you have an option of visiting, Tshibati waterfalls if you are still strong from the hike or visit Lwiro Primate Rehabilitation Centre (LPRC) near the park. Later in the evening, transfer to your lodge where you will spend the rest of your day relaxing, diner and overnight.

Day 6 of the 6 Days Congo gorilla safari & Nyiragongo hiking safari tour: Transfer to Kigali to your hotel or for your flight

After breakfast at your place of stay, you will travel back to Kigali at a hotel or to Kigali International airport to catch our flight back home.
