The drive to Bwindi will see you cover 527km from Kampala which takes about ten (10) hours’ drive. Though, the drive seems to be long, it can be covered without knowing that you have covered it. The drive takes the Masaka route moving out of Kampala which is Uganda’s capital and the common center where Uganda safaris tend to start from. The drive will see you make a stop at 77km from Kampala at the Uganda Equator crossing Kayabwe well known for its magical photo shots and the amazing water experiment which sets apart the north and southern hemisphere.
From the equator, the smooth tarmac road shared with other public transport equipment including buses to and from Western Uganda, commuter taxis and other private vehicles not forgetting transit cargo vehicles that connect to Rwanda and Congo also give you company. The traditional range-lands of Ankole with its beautiful scenic landscape dotted with the Ankole long horned cattle will welcome you as you drive past Lyantonde town. The counts of Impala and Zebra from the adjacent Lake Mburo National Park which is also visited by travelers on safaris in Uganda may be seen along the road grazing along with the Ankole cows. A thrilling stop would then be made at the Igongo Cultural Museum which is 12km to Mbarara town. The lunch is a typical African buffet and very interesting to taste on your safari in Uganda.
From Igongo, you dive past Mbarara town traversing the amazing country side landscapes of Rwampara and Ntungamo before being welcomed by the fascination Kigezi highlands. If you are driving to Buhoma, you take the Rukungiri road but if you are driving to the south and east parts of Rushaga, Nkuringo and Ruhija respectively, you have to drive through Kabale town amidst impressive highlands presenting remarkable sceneries before arriving your lodge in the evening for refreshing and preparation for the tomorrow’s gorilla trekking adventure.
