gorilla safaris and tours in ugandaThe Bweza Gorilla family is one of the five gorilla groups that are found in Rushaga sector in the south of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park always encountered by travelers on gorilla safaris in Uganda.
Along with Mishaya, Kahungye, Busingye and Nshongi, the Bweza Gorilla family that forms the strong ground for the Uganda gorilla safaris in Rushaga. It boasts of nine (9) members among which include one (1) silverback.
The Bweza gorilla family initially was part of the Nshongi gorilla family which is the largest gorilla family to ever been habituated in the whole of Bwindi. The formation of Bweza began with Bweza separating from Mishaya which had also separated from Nshongi in the previous two years. The continued separation of these gorilla groups increased the number of gorilla families thus increasing the gorilla pool that would accommodate the increased number of travelers on Uganda gorilla safaris.
Though the Uganda Wildlife Authority speculated that Mishaya would re-unite again with Bweza, it did not turn out as speculated and the Bweza group was eventually brought to gorilla trekking in Uganda in December 2012.
Bwindi has twelve habituated gorilla families where three (3) are found in the north namely; Rushegura, Mubare and Habinyanja, three (3) in the east namely; Oruzogo, Kyaguliro and Bitukura. In the far south east there lies Nkuringo region with one gorilla family named Nkuringo. All these groups present a memorable encounter for travelers on gorilla safaris and tours in Uganda.
