The local communities in Uganda continue to realize the benefits of gorilla safaris – Uganda safari news
Uganda
is on $600 for foreign non residents and for long the amount of $5
dollars from each permit sold would go to the local communities
surrounding the gorilla trekking destinations to support approved
community development projects. It is such a moment of celebration to
hear that this amount will be doubled.
The Uganda Wildlife Executive Director noted that starting from the 1st of July 2015; the amount that has been given to the local communities from the permits that are sold to travelers’ on gorilla safaris in Uganda would be doubled. In the previous year, a total of 266 million Uganda Shillings was generated thus doubling this money would eventually generate over USD 500 million in the year 2015.
The increase in this money is seen as a positive step to the development of the local communities that surround the park such as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The amount is expected to enhance the local livelihood in terms of better clean water provision, educational and health services and income generating projects that would be self-reliant with a start up capital from Uganda Wildlife Authority funds which eventually will increase the local peoples’ appreciation of gorilla tourism and Mountain gorilla conservation.
