The 2015 sports tourism festival in kabale launched – Uganda safari news

sports-kabaleThe Kigezi region is re-known as one of the great Uganda safari destinations where a range of lucrative tourist activities are conducted. The region is the home of the Uganda gorilla trekking safari destination of Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Area and also the Lake of a thousand Islands – the famous Lake Bunyonyi with its 29 Islands.
Besides gorilla trekking, the Kabale region has gone ahead to innovate more tourism products that can be incorporated in the regional circuit which in turn would stimulate world travellers to undertake safaris to Uganda. The Sport Tourism festival that has been designed to take place from 3rd – 5th April during the Easter season is considered to be among tourism initiatives in the area.
The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) a body that is responsible for marketing tourism products that are always encountered on safaris in Uganda in collaboration with the East Africa Sports Tourism Initiative (EASTI) are making the attempt to arrange the above mentioned festival with the aim of invigorating the domestic tourism that would see the locals surrounding major tourism sites appreciate the role of tourism and its significance in the socio-economic empowerment of the society.
The Sports Tourism Festival Kabale has been incorporated in the annual event and part of calendar activities that will continue to be hosted around key Uganda safari tour destinations. The EASTI will stretch a corporate hand to the target community participants in terms of sports equipment.
The Kabale Sports Tourism Festival 2015 will be hosted at Kabale Municipality Stadium with the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister of Uganda, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda coming in as the guest of Honor and the event will feature the following encounters; The football Match and Net ball between the Tour operators and Hoteliers Versus the Kabale District Administration on the 3rd of April 2015, wrestling (Okufukaana) among the counties of Kabale, Tug of war locally known as Omuguha between the counties of Kabale, Endurance run from the town of Kabale to Bunyonyi Safari Resort approximately 11km which will include corporate team building en route, Birding Race from Bunyonyi Safaris Resort to Echuya forest, Bjodal Mines, continuing to Ruhija and Rushebeya which will be managed by Nature Uganda, Mountain Bicycle Race commencing from Bunyonyi Safaris Resort through Kachwekano, Kiyora, Kekubo, Rutoma Hill and then returning to Bunyonyi Safari Resort, Canoe Race starting from Bunyonyi Overland Resort around Nature Prime Island and then returning to Bunyonyi Overland Resort, Swimming encounter from Edirisa to the Bunyonyi Overland Resort.
A range of other encounters will be carried out at Kids Park with light encounters for light sports, Bouncing Castle and Skipping. Then the event will be crowned on Sunday 5th of April 2015 by a cultural extravaganza where a range of performances from Bakiga, Batwa and Banyarwanda along with impressive musical instruments like Enanga (herp playing), Endingidi (local violin) and omukuri (flute) which are at times encountered on Uganda safaris and tours.
