A list of Habituated Gorilla families and their locations- Prime Uganda safaris & Tours safari updates

goUganda has got many gorilla families which have attracted gorilla trekking safaris to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. These gorilla groups have been tracked differently by the tourists who visit Uganda. There are a total of eight groups and they are located in different regions of the park.
The Buhoma area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest has three groups of mountain gorillas and it has been visited by many tourists who come for gorilla trekking in Uganda. These groups include; the mubare group which was the first habituated gorilla tracking group for tourists. The habituation began in 1991 and this group received its first visitors in 1993. The group is named after the Mubare Hills where the group was found, the Habinyanja group was habituated for gorilla tracking in 1997 and opened for tourists in 1999.it was a big group but had a family split out of which the Rushegura group was birthed and lastly the Rushegura group was habituated in 2000 and opened to tourists in 2002 and it’s the largest group in Buhoma region.
Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is also done Ruhija area which has Bitukura group which is one of the newer gorilla safari groups in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest; it is located and roams the forest in the Ruhija region.
The Rushaga Area of Bwindi Impenetrable forest harbours both the Mishaya group which split from the largest gorilla group in Bwindi- the Nshongi gorilla group and they both still live in the Rushaga area of south Bwindi Impenetrable forest, the Nshongi group which is the largest habituated gorilla group in Uganda and it has 25 members.
Nkuringo area of Bwindi Impenetrable forest which is one of the more physically demanding but rewarding areas of the forest for gorilla tracking and home of the Nkuringo gorilla group with 19 family members .
Nyakagezi group which is found in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and this one can be combined with volcano climbing, golden monkey tracking, Birding, and the famous Batwa Trail.
