UGANDA SET TO HOST AFRICA BIRDING EXPO – UGANDA SAFARI NEWS
When
it comes to bird watching safaris, Uganda is surely building a
reputation as a prime bird watching destination and hosting the annual
Africa birding expo will definitely solidify all that reputation.
The African birding expo is a new idea that was advanced by members of Uganda Safari Guides association, the umbrella association of all those involved in Uganda safari tour guiding and includes other associations like the Uganda Bird Guides Club, Uganda Cultural Guides Club (UCGC), Tourist Driver Guides Club, Women Birders, and Foreign Language Guides.
Uganda which has more than half the bird species in Africa is best country to host this African birding expo-the very first of its kind.
For over 10 years now, Uganda has steadily grown as a bird watching destination globally and recently, prominent birders from United Kingdom and United States of America have visited the country and this has promoted it as a bird watching destination.
Hosting this international birding expo is a big opportunity for Uganda because it will bring in birders from all-over the world such as Asia, Europe, Australia and America and this will be good marketing opportunity for the birding section of Uganda’s tourism industry.
This African birding expo is expected to bring in new business opportunities and also provide an avenue to promote bird watching safaris in Uganda. Uganda will also in essence be selling it-self and what it has to offer it its counterparts and will be profiled as an African birding destination through-out the expo. This is definitely good news for Uganda’s tourism industry.
Although Uganda is famously known for gorilla trekking safaris and other tourist attractions such as the Nile River and Rwenzori mountains, it also has a rich birding sector.
In the last years, birding watching safaris in Uganda sector have grown with training of over 100 bird guides and tourist site guides. There are about 1057 bird species in Uganda, which is an impressive number to any birder and more than half of the bird species in Africa can be found in Uganda and about also about 11% of the global bird species.
There is more than enough to get excited for and keep birders engaged an in the destination once they discover it. This growth in the bird watching sector will definitely benefit Uganda as birders are tourists who spend the longest time and spend more money than the rest Uganda safari travelers. On average a birder spends about a week plus in the country.
However this is good news for this country and it should help increase bird watching tourists in the country if all goes well. So 2016 should be a very good year for the birding sector in Uganda.
