GORILLA PERMITS OF UGANDA – UGANDA GORILLA SAFARI NEWS

gorilla-permitUganda is interestingly among the three (3) countries in the world with population of the Mountain Gorillas which are known to be critically endangered world over and thus Mountain Gorilla Safaris in Uganda are among the iconic packages that world travelers look out for on the continent of Africa.
However, it can be noted that to be able to track Mountain Gorillas, a traveler on Uganda gorilla safari must be in possession of a gorilla permit. permits in Uganda are a preserve of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) and they are issued at its main Headquarters along Kiira Road Kamwokya Kampala though booking can be direct or indirect through a local tour operator.
There are two destinations where Gorilla trekking safaris and tours in Uganda is carried out namely; Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which is the main and the pioneer site and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park – Uganda’s second Mountain Gorilla refigium.  Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is blessed with a minimum of 400 Mountain Gorillas and 14 Habituated  families though two are still undergoing habituation while Mgahinga features one habituated gorillas group named Nyakagezi but is also part of the greater Virunga massif where the 480 Mountain Gorillas are known to thrive.
The Mountain Gorilla trekking experience is so far ranked the best safari activity in Africa but this lifetime wonder cannot be guaranteed until one has secured the trekking permit. An advance arrangement is much recommended to be able to get the gorilla permit of the desired date and tracking region for the sake of Bwindi which has various tracking regions of Nkuringo, Rushaga, Ruhija and Buhoma.
Different prices are tagged on these  permits depending on the citizen status and the season of travel. The Non-resident foreigners pay $600, Resident foreigners pay $500 while the East African Community Citizens pay 250,000/= during the normal season months but if one wishes to take up a gorilla safari in Uganda in the months of April, May and November, the permits are always discounted and given out at $450 for foreign non residents, $400 for foreign residents and 150,000/= for East African Community Citizens.
The passport details including full names, the passport number, nationality and date of birth are always required by Uganda Wildlife Authority to print one’s respective  permit.
