Orphaned Gorillas pose for selfie with anti-Poaching rangers in Congo -Congo Safari News

The digital revolution connects the world and this didn’t just leave out the elusive Mountain Gorillas! Two orphaned gorillas pose for selfie with anti-poaching rangers on a relaxed selfie moment,these rangers rescued them as babies. These two are Mountain Gorillas, an endangered specie of gorillas and the only group facing a population though still endangered. Congo gorilla trekking safaris are popular for such incredible moments in the wild. One is seen posing with her side profile, while the other leans slightly forward from behind a ranger, seemingly to try get into the frame.

The pair of orphaned females, named Ndakazi and Ndeze, struck human-like poses alongside two caretakers, Mathieu and Patrick, at Virunga National Park's Senkwekwe centre an orphanage. The two gorillas were raised in the orphanage after both of their parents were killed by poachers in July 2007. The gorillas were just two and four months old at the time. Shortly afterwards, they were found and taken to Senkwekwe Sanctuary in Virunga, where they have lived ever since.


The park's deputy director stated that they had learned to imitate their care takers, who have looked after them since they were found.

The gorillas, he added, think of the rangers as their parents.

Because they've grown up with the rangers who rescued them, Mr. Mburanumwe added, "they are imitating the humans" - and standing on two legs is their way of "learning to be human beings".

But it "doesn't happen normally", he said. "I was very surprised to see it... so it's very funny. It's very curious to see how a gorilla can imitate a human and stand up."

 "Those gorilla gals are always acting cheeky so this was the perfect shot of their true personalities!" said Virunga National Park in a post on Instagram on Monday April 22nd.

To the park officials, it was not surprising to see the animals on their two feet as most primates are comfortable walking upright for short bursts of time.

This was an exceptional circumstance and no guarantee that tourists on gorilla trekking safaris in Congo will find gorillas posing for selfies all over the forest, and trekkers should not approach gorillas so closely without rangers.

Congo hosts Mountain Gorillas in its Virunga National Park and yet still the only country with both Mountain and Lowland gorillas found in kahuzi Biega National Park.
