Numerous travelers safari Uganda because they have heard about the Pearl of Africa filled with stunning landscapes with exclusive natural beauty and numerous wildlife worth seeing on a Holiday. Visit Uganda and add a travel chapter in your life story! A Uganda safari experience in this magical beautiful country cannot be best described by mere words because it’s far beyond pleasure and there are no specific words can explain it.

As a country, Uganda has a good number of Uganda wildlife safari attractions well distributed in various parks across the country. These include some of the deadliest species on the planet, large mammals, calm and insignificant wild animals, colorful butterflies, jumpy primates especially monkeys and humans closest relatives; the mountain gorillas and chimpanzees that are some of the prime tourist attractions in the country.

In Africa, the big five game animals are Lions, Leopards, the black and white Rhinoceros, Elephants and Buffalos. The term "big five game" was invented by big game hunters who referred to these animals as the most difficult animals in Africa to hunt on foot.

Subsequently the term Big five game was adopted by safari tour operators for marketing purposes. The term is used by most tourists and wildlife guides that discuss African wildlife safaris. The members of the Big Five were chosen for the difficulty in hunting them and the degree of danger involved, rather than their size.
The big five are among the most dangerous, yet most popular species in Uganda’s wildlife and the
most difficult for hunters to hunt.

African Elephants

The scientific name of the African elephant is Loxodonta Africana and it’s among the vulnerable species in the world. Tourists on Uganda safaris to Uganda wildlife safari parks can view big flocks of the Elephants in Queen Elizabeth National park. They can also be found in Murchison Falls National Park.

Black Rhinoceros

The Rhinoceros are among the Critically Endangered species and their scientific name is Diceros bicornis. However, its biggest threat is poaching mainly for its rhino horn as well as medicinal use especially in China. While on a safari in Uganda, Rhinos can be seen in Ziwa Rhino sanctuary.

Buffaloes

The African Buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a large horned bovid. Buffaloes are the only animals within the Big Five that aren't endangered or threatened. The African buffalo is considered by many to be the most dangerous of the big five because they are so strong. Buffaloes can be viewed in Murchison and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Lions

Scientifically, a lion (Panthera leo) is a large carnivorous cat like animal in Africa having a short, tawny coat, a tufted tail, and in the male, a heavy mane around the neck and shoulders. Lions live in the savanna where tall grasses, shrubs, and bushes obscure them and provide cover and camouflage. Uganda is gifted with tree climbing lions that are seen in Queen Elizabeth National Park in Ishasha. Besides the tree climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth National Park, they can also be seen in Murchison Falls National Park and Kidepo Valley National Park.

Leopards

The leopard (Panthera pardus) is a large, carnivorous catlike having either yellowish-brown fur with dark brown markings or black fur. Of the big five, it is most difficult to acquire hunting licenses for leopards. The leopard is considered the most difficult of the big five because of their nocturnal and secretive nature. They are wary of humans and will take flight in the face of danger. The leopard is unsocial by nature, and is most active between sunset and sunrise, although it may hunt during the day in some areas. Leopards can be found in the savanna grasslands, brush land and forested areas in Africa. Leopards are the smallest of the big cats. They can be sighted in Murchison Falls National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Murchison Falls National Park is the only park in Uganda that offers Uganda wildlife safaris view of the big five wild game only if you passed by Ziwa Rhino sanctuary to view the Rhinoceros.

Countries where all the members of the big five can be found include Uganda, Angola, Botswana, Zambia, Namibia, Ethiopia, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Malawi and we can tailor for you Africa wildlife safaris to all those countries on your next Africa safari holiday.
