Situated in
Lake Mburo National Park in South western Uganda, Rubanga forest is a 260 square kilometer natural rich forest that lies in Uganda’s smallest savannah Park.
Lake Mburo National Park Uganda is characterized with amusing diversity covering seasonal and permanent swamps, five lakes within the parks boundaries, forests and Savannah vegetation making it a habitat to a big number of wildlife as well as a good number of bird species.
Lake Mburo National Park is the only national park in Uganda with the horse safari activity. This gives opportunity to tourists on

Lake Mburo boasts a good number of bird species totaling to about 360 species and 40 out of these can only be found in Rubanga forest. Rubanga forest is a birders paradise for bird enthusiasts interested in
Uganda birding safaris and also an ideal place for guided nature walks. Examples of birds found in Rubanga forest are; double toothed barbet, marina teogn, grey backed cameroptera, harrier hawk, green pigeon to mention a few.
Uganda is the leading destination for birding safaris in the whole world with the country having over 1000 bird species in fact it’s believed that Uganda has got half of the world’s birds. Birds that can be seen in Rubanga forest include the Grey backed cameroptera, double toothed barbet, coqui francolin, Ross’s turaco, red shouldered cuckoo shrike, red headed lover bird, black bellied bustard, emerald spotted wood done, bare faced go away bird, green hood hoopoe and Nubian woodpecker among the rest.
Besides the birds, there are also a number of tree species commonly seen at Rubanga forest including fig trees, acacia, palm, markhamia,
platycaluz among others. During the guided nature walk in Rubanga forest on your
safari in Uganda, tourists may come across animals like hyenas returning to their dens from hunting at night and hippos returning to water after night grazing with the fresh air and chattering of birds. During an evening nature walk, you may encounter a lot of zebras, impalas, monkeys and many more this walks always last for about two hours.
