Detailed Itinerary of the 10 Days Rwenzori Hiking safari Uganda/ 10 Days Uganda mountaineering safari Uganda

Day 1 of the 10 Days Rwenzori Hiking safari Uganda/ 10 Days Uganda mountaineering safari Uganda: Arrive at the Entebbe International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Entebbe/ Kampala depending on your choice 

 Upon arrival at the airport in Entebbe, your guide will be at the airport to pick you up. He will then give you a short briefing about your mountaineering safari Uganda and after you will be transferred to your hotel for dinner and overnight in Entebbe.

Day 2 of the 10 Days Rwenzori Hiking safari Uganda/ 10 Days Uganda mountaineering safari Uganda: Transfer from Kampala to Mountain Rwenzori National Park in Kasese

Our driver guide will pick you up at the hotel in the morning after your breakfast. You will meet and greet at around 8am in the morning, have a short briefing about your 9 Days Rwenzori Hiking safari Uganda from your Uganda safari guide and embark on your journey to Kasese in Mountain Rwenzori National Park via the Kampala-Mubende-Fort portal road. On your way there, you will enjoying beautiful scenery of the rolling hills as you approach fort portal.

Day 3 of the 10 Days Rwenzori Hiking safari Uganda/ 10 Days Uganda mountaineering safari Uganda: Climb- to Nyabitaba (2650m) using Bakonjo homestead

Have breakfast at your lodging facility, transfer with your guide to Nyakalengija trailhead (1600m) where your hiking safari in Uganda will begin from. You will be briefed your guide that will lead you up the mountain. After the briefing, begin hiking up to Nyabitaba hut where you will spend your night. During your hike, you will walk through the banana sambas along the steep foothills, passing through the typical Bakonjo homesteads. You will follow the trail along the Mubuku River, cross the Mahoma River where you will climb steeply through break palm leaf slopes and podocarps forest to Nyabitaba Hut for diner and your overnight.

Day 4 of the 10 Days Rwenzori Hiking safari Uganda/ 10 Days Uganda mountaineering safari Uganda: Leave Nyabitaba (2650m) and move to the John Matte hut (3350m)

In the morning after breakfast, you will depart Nyabitaba following the trail that slopes down through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge situated below the confluence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. Continue with your journey passing through the bamboo forest, where you will cross through a long and exhausting stretch of slippery moss-covered rock. As you approach the Nyamileju rock shelter, Mount Stanley and Mount Speke can be seen as your approaching the zone of the giant heather, lobelia and groundsel. Arrive at John Matte Hut after passing through the tiring swamp, for dinner and overnight at the Hut.

Day 5 of the 10 Days Rwenzori Hiking safari Uganda/ 10 Days Uganda mountaineering safari Uganda: Depart John Matte Hut for Bujuku Hut

Have breakfast at the hut; John Matte Hut, use the trail that drops to cross the Bujuku River. Take the upper Bigo Swamp that will give you way to Bujuku Lake, giving you view of Mount Baker to the South and Mt Stanley to the west. The Bujuku Hut is well located in the shadow of Mount Baker and Mount Speke. Arrive, have dinner and overnight there.

Day 6 of the 10 Days Rwenzori Hiking safari Uganda/ 10 Days Uganda mountaineering safari Uganda: Leave Bujuku Hut for Mount Stanley

Have breakfast and embark on the trail that leads you to mountain Stanley climbing the steep slopes west of the lake. You will hike passing through the magical groundsels gully ascending to Scott-Elliot Pass situated about at 4372m. As you arrive at the gully, take a metal ladder that will take you over a steep section after which the trail splits into two. The right leads up to Elena Hut and Mount Stanley on a steep trail over large boulders. The left path leads to Scott. Elliot passes and down to Kitandara Lakes. Arrive at Mount Stanley for your night.

Day 7 of the 10 Days Rwenzori Hiking safari Uganda/ 10 Days Uganda mountaineering safari Uganda: Leave Mount Stanley and go to the Margherita summit.

On this day, you will climb to the Margherita peaks (5109m). you will use the trail that continues to the base of the Stanley Glacier. It is roughly a 4-7 hour walk to the summit of Margherita. It is only for the physically fit and is a technical climb which requires roping up, crampons and appropriate equipment for cold, windy and icy conditions. It is best to attempt the final climb in a minimum group of 4- two climbers and two guides; climb on to the glacier, cross the Stanly Plateau and proceed with the ascent. Returning to Scott- Elliot pass, descend to the Kitandara Hut for overnight, past the Kitandara Lakes.

Day 8 of the 10 Days Rwenzori Hiking safari Uganda/ 10 Days Uganda mountaineering safari Uganda: Climb Mt Stanleyto Guy Yeoman Hut (3260m)

From Kitandara, the trail ascends steeply up the headwall, spreading out from the base of Mount Baker and continuing along the south side of the to Fresh field pass. From the pass, the long muddy descent continues, passing the rock shelter at Bujangolo, the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906.

Day 9 of the 10 Days Rwenzori Hiking safari Uganda/ 10 Days Uganda mountaineering safari Uganda: Climb Nyabitaba(2650m)

The path down can be slippery and muddy with little to hold on to and requires careful balancing over the vertical mud or steep rock. An overnight stop at the Nyabiaba Hut.

Day 10 the 10 Days Rwenzori Hiking safari Uganda/ 10 Days Uganda mountaineering safari Uganda: Nyabitaba to Nyakalengija

Nyabitaba to Nyakalengija is about 3 hours. Nyabitaba starts the 40 minutes trial to see Lake Mahoma and back to the hut for descending to the Park Head Quarters where you will connect with your driver / guide and transfer back to Kampala or your Lodge in Kasese marking the end of your Rwenzori Hiking central circuit trail.
