ROTHSHILD GIRAFFE RESCUED FROM A SNARE IN MURCHISON FALLS NATIONAL PARK – UGANDA SAFARIS NEW

With this back ground, it is unfortunate to note that Rothschild giraffes continue to be endangered by the human poaching practices. The poachers in quest for wild meat set up snares to trap animals which in turn trap other untargeted species including giraffe whose reduction has got an effect not only in terms of conservation but also the numbers of tourists that plan safaris to Uganda in order to encounter it.
This case has equally happened in Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda but interesting to note is that a group of veterinary workers from Uganda Conservation Foundation and Uganda Wildlife Authority has rescued it and is undergoing successful treatment. These two bodies have joined efforts to reduce poaching effects and a group of 130 rangers has been set to patrol the Murchison Falls National Park. Uganda has the greatest number of Rothschild giraffes in the world thus ensuring their survival is very paramount for international conservation and wildlife safaris in Uganda.
