WHERE ELSE CAN MOUNTAIN GORILLAS BE TRACKED APART FROM BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK? – UGANDA SAFARI NEWS

gorilla-imageFor a very long time the Uganda gorilla safari destination of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park have been known as the haven of the gorilla trekking safaris and tours in Uganda and the entire region. Though it contains 400 out of 880 mountain gorillas that are currently known to be thriving in the wild with none known to be in captivity, there are other destinations apart from Bwindi where gorilla tracking safari tours can be conducted.
Mountain gorillas are descendants of ancestral monkeys and Apes known to have thrived in the parts of Africa and Asia are currently known to be critically endangered as listed on the IUCN Red list. They thrives only in two highland geographical spreads with one being the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest which is perched on one of the raised altitudes in Uganda and the other one being the Virunga Massif that is shared between Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo where parks of Mgahinga Gorilla, Volcanoes and Virunga thrive respectively.
The point of where else the mountain gorillas can be trekked apart from Bwindi is very significant as an alternative is necessary to be of help in case the permits are not available of the client location is not favoring Bwindi gorilla trekking safari.
It is interesting to note that Uganda has two gorilla trekking safari micro-destinations namely Bwindi and Mgahinga. Thus, apart from Bwindi one can track gorillas while on Uganda gorilla trekking safari tour in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park at the extreme south western corner of Uganda comprised mainly of the three Virunga volcanoes namely Sabyinyo, Muhabura and Gahinga.
Holding Uganda aside, one can undertake gorilla trekking safaris and tours in Rwanda and trek mountain gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park in the slopes of the Virunga massif. The gorilla destination of Congo is also an alternative for gorilla trekking however due to political instabilities that have characterized the area for long have left it less desirable for gorilla trekkers.
