RWANDESE TO PROMOTE THEIR CULTURE IN DIASPORA – RWANDA SAFARI NEWS
Rwanda has been well known not only for her natural offers like gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park, Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest National Park and wildlife safaris in Akagera National Park but also for her culture. The Rwandese culture is quite stunning and interesting to encounter on Rwanda safari.
However, this has always been inadequate for the Rwandan community
living in diaspora prompting them to revitalize their culture abroad.
The Rwandese in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey with the support of the Rwandan High Commission and the high ranking officials resolved to run a project focusing on Rwandan cultural activities. The main intention is to promote cohesion and encourage the community of different ages to revive their attachment to the Rwandan culture. The projected activities in this venture include; traditional dancing, learning Kinyarwanda, Rwandan Poetry and other instrumental traditional values. The Rwandese in diaspora acknowledges that in any society, it’s the language, dance, art and traditional values that define the identity of its culture.
This initiative would avert the effects of globalization and technology and the effects of 1994 genocide in Rwanda in which the custodians of culture (Elders) were killed and majority ended up in diaspora. The children born in diaspora have no attachment to their indigenous back grounds – something threatening the culture of Rwanda.
Performances have already commenced in the famous New York Park in close proximity to Band shell – the platform for summer performances which attracts over one million New York residents and tourists for pay free concerts. The project is spearheaded by Amahoro Iwacu Grassroots Impact Network. This will in turn increase safaris to Rwanda or encourage travelers on Rwanda safaris to visit the cultural centers in Rwanda or incorporate them on the safari visit packages.
