BUGANDA TO PROMOTE AGRO TOURISM – UGANDA SAFARIS
Buganda kingdom has commenced tractor donating project to people from
various Kingdom parts with intention of boosting agro tourism in
Buganda and Uganda in general.
This was aired out by the Kingdom Prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga during the farewell of Buganda Tourism Expo 2014 at the Mengo palace on Tuesday. A step he asserted that would definitely supplement the apparent efforts to develop tourism based on culture.
The monarchy believes that recipients will set up classical farms in the respective 18 Kingdom counties from which imminent commercial farmers in Uganda and the entire region of East Africa will reap modern techniques and expertise. Cases of potential of man made attractions were sited in Dubai that pulled over 11 million tourists in 2013, something which can be replicated in Buganda provided there is focus and commitment. In the event, the first tractor was handed over to Esther Nalubowa as a donation from Cooper Motors which automatically verified the zeal for this project.
Agro tourism involves any farm grounded action that fetches visitors to a farm. Though with different nomenclature in various parts of the world, its general yardstick is that it includes activities like; purchasing harvest straight from a farm stand, circumnavigating a corn, fruit picking, animal feeding, or spending an overnight at a B&B on a farm.
Once Uganda develops this form of Safari tour, it will join the agro tourism success stories like Taiwan, Tuscany, Mallorca, Brazil, Hawai, Granada, California and the Philippines. It will also complement her famous Uganda wildlife safaris or Gorilla tracking safaris.
