Uganda the second happiest country in East Africa – UN Happiness Report shows

Of recent, Ugandans are the lucky to be the second happiest people in East Africa, as per the annual 2018 UN World Happiness Report. Uganda was ranked the second after Kenya which is placed in the first position in East Africa.

The annual 2018 UN World Happiness Report that was released on March 15 this year and Uganda was placed in the 135th position out of the indexed 156 countries. Kenya was placed in the 124th position, Rwanda the third in 151st position, Tanzania 153, South Sudan 154 and Burundi the last in 156th position.

The overall ranking of a country in the annual 2018 UN World Happiness Report was determined by the scores obtained per country in the last 3 years depending on six values considered as happiness triggers. Happiness triggers include freedom, income, healthy life expectancy, social support, trust and generosity of the people in that particular country. This report is released annually by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

The 10 Happiest Countries in the report are;

  2. Norway
  3. Denmark
  4. Iceland
  5. Switzerland
  6. Netherlands
  7. Canada
  8. New Zealand
  9. Sweden
  10. Australia
While the 10 worst in the happiest report are:
  1. Malawi
  2. Haiti
  3. Liberia
  4. Syria
  5. Rwanda
  6. Yemen
  7. Tanzania
  8. South Sudan
  9. Central African Republic
  10. Burundi
Other notable countries include USA in the 18th position followed by United Kingdom in the 19th position. Taiwan Province of China in the 26th position, Mainland China 86th, while the Russian Federation was placed in the 56th position. Mauritius the Indian Ocean island country maintained its position as the happiest country in Africa in 55th position followed by Algeria and Morocco in the 84th and 85th positions respectively. Most of the countries that ranked worst in happiness report are war torn countries which include Burundi, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Yemen, Syria and Afghanistan.
