The charming Victoria Falls of Southern Africa-Zimbabwe safari news

Victoria Falls-The world’s largest waterfall

One of the world’s seven wonders, Victoria Falls are one of Africa’s greatest safari attractions. Dubbed the world’s largest waterfall, Victoria Falls is the only waterfall in the world with a length of more than one kilometer and a height of more than a hundred meters. With this height and length, the thunderous pour of the waterfall can be heard from 40 kilometers away and the mist from the falling water seen from about 50km away as it raises to a height of 400meters. The locals around the falls for the sound and raising high mist/spray referred to the waterfall as “Mosi-o-Tunya” which is translated as the smoke that thunders.

This scenic view is one you can’t afford to miss on a Zimbabwe safari. Victoria Falls spans across two countries of Zimbabwe and Zambia. Land locked Zimbabwe borders the country on the west as Zambia borders to the right just connected by a bridge across the falls. It is situated with the Victoria Falls National Park on the side of Zimbabwe and in the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park on the side of Zambia. Therefore, to have a complete view of the falls, a tourist has to undertake both a safari to Zimbabwe and a Zambia safari then enter through the different entrances to the park. However, the Victoria Falls are 75% visible from Zimbabwe. To have a great tour on the Victoria falls, many tourists opt for a helicopter flight over the falls that lasts only about 13 minutes. The Victoria Falls is formed by the water of the Zambezi river which is the fourth longest river in Africa. Zambezi river is the longest east-flowing river in Africa and the largest flowing river from Africa in to the Indian Ocean.

Best time to visit the Victoria Falls

When you finally decide to get to Victoria Falls, you should know the best time to take a tour around the park. The park is open by morning therefore you can be there early and catch a glimpse of the sunrise during the quiet time of the park. In the morning, the rainbows are excellent over the Devils Cataracts with the sun behind you though the perfect time to see the rainbow is during the afternoon hours between 2-4pm. After 4 the rainbow isn’t clear and the shadows are casting on the falls. If you would love to view the rainbow at sunset then the Zambia side is good because the view point is close to the exit gate.

Other attractions in Zimbabwe

Rather than the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, there is a lot more to see in this beautiful country. Zimbabwe is a vibrant country with dramatic landscapes and impressive national parks with abundant wildlife including the big five wild animals (Buffaloes, Rhinos, Elephants, Lions and Leopards). You can have the best wildlife sightings at Mana Pools National Park or to any other safari park.

Waterfalls are amazing scenes for adventure lovers and Africa never seizes to offer. On the World’s longest river, you find the world’s most powerful waterfall which squeezes just through a 7 meters gorge plunging 45m below what is termed the devils cauldron. The falls are located at Murchison Falls National Park which is a popular spot for wildlife safaris in Uganda.
