This message was given to the visiting Israel’s ambassador to East Africa, Mr.Gil Haskel by Dr James Mutende when he recently visited Abayudaya faith community in Mbale.
Busia boarder located in Mbale is a fast growing centre of trade for the East African countries as well as South Sudan and would be transformed into a food basket if Israel invested in this important Ugandan safari trade in the region.
Dr.Mutende requested that as Isreal plans to help develop the Abayudaya community in Mbale, he would like to take this opportunity to invite them to invest in the different opportunities like Agro-processing, industry and tourism (Uganda safaris business) in Mbale as well. He assured them that he had seen how green Mbale is, with its tourism potential and it has an industrial park that is yearning for investors, please talk to them he further requested the Israel Ambassador to inform industrialists, businessmen and others that the investment doors where open and are all are welcome as this too is their home since we already have a community permanently duelling here .
The Minister requested the Ambassador to help build closer relations with Uganda to revive the Israel embassy and friendship which was closed in 1970s during the reign of late Idi Amin Dada .Mr Gil Haskel, promised to support the Abayudaya community with its development through providing income generating projects.
Mr Haskel intimated that since they have a Jewish community living here after surviving the torture during the Late Idi Amin’s reign, they are going to use this as a link to encourage agro-processing companies to exploit this potential. Mr Haskel revealed that Israel has over 10 embassies in around Africa and that top on its agenda is opening an eleventh embassy in Uganda.
He assured Ugandans that Israelites are definitely coming back to Uganda to open up a new embassy as he spoke then.
