Gorilla Numbers In Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Uganda Rise - Uganda Safari News

Good News befell Bwindi Impenetrable National as the Uganda conservation party anxiously waiting for the news that the population of mountain gorillas in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Uganda conservation area have increased. This came after the conclusion of carrying out a gorilla census in this park that has been going for quite some time now.  During the official opening of  the Third Meeting of the Parties of the Agreement on the Conservation of Gorillas and Their Habitats (Gorilla Agreement) in Entebbe, Tourism Minister Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu said “The Bwindi Impenetrable mountain gorilla population in western Uganda has increased significantly from the 2011 figures of 400,” he further added that the census results would soon be announced after genetic analysis was complete.
All this comes after a similar census was done in the Virunga massif where the results indicated a healthy growth in the population of mountain gorillas in this region where the numbers grew from the previous officially recorded figures of 480 gorillas in 2010 to a new figure of 604 gorillas and this highlights a successful conservation story that has seen these endangered gentle giants grow in numbers slowly over decades of conservation work that has been steadily going on in the Virunga ranges for quite a number of years now.
All these were shared during the Third Meeting of the Parties of the Agreement on the Conservation of Gorillas and Their Habitats (Gorilla Agreement). Or shortened as Gorilla MOP3. Gorilla MOP3 or Gorilla Agreement is a Multilateral Environmental Agreement under the umbrella of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) and aims to facilitate international cooperation to improve the conservation status of gorillas in all ten Range States. Angola, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Nigeria, Rwanda and Uganda are represented at this meeting to help take stock of conservation measures undertaken for gorillas over the last eight years.
This meeting was hosted by the government of the Republic of Uganda with the generous support of the Government of Luxembourg, the Third Meeting of the Parties of the Agreement on the Conservation of Gorillas and Their Habitats (Gorilla Agreement) is taking place at Imperial Golf View Hotel, Entebbe from 18 to 20 June 2019.
