TREKKING GORILLAS IN RWANDA – RWANDA SAFARI NEWS

Rwanda gorillasMountain gorilla trekking is one of those tour and travel activities that does not thrill the Rwanda safari undertakers but also nourishes the Rwanda’s economy through foreign exchange earnings. Conducted in the only Volcanoes National Park in the north west of Rwanda 116km approximately 3 hours’ drive from Kigali, the country’s capital, gorilla trekking in Rwanda is ideally done all year-round.
Rwanda like Uganda discovered that gorilla tracking activity was a perfect avenue through which the critically endangered mountain gorillas would be conserved. The local people who were poaching them could get absorbed in tourism jobs and the funds generated could partially facilitate the gorilla conservation and their habitat.
There are over ten (10) gorilla families that have been habituated purposely for encountering on Rwanda gorilla safari. Each gorilla family takes maximum of eight people per day and is available for direct encounter for one full hour so as to minimize stress and disturbance. The gorilla trekking encounter commences at 08:00am local time at the Volcanoes Park Headquarters Kinigi and the activity duration lasts 2 – 8 hours depending on how near or far the gorillas have foraged.
