Rwanda as

a country is a home to a third of the mountain gorillas which are considered

to be endangered species. These primates live in Parc National des Volcans were they have attracted many gorilla safaris to Rwanda. This park lies in Virunga Conservation Area were the great conservationist Dian Fossey spent most of her time studying the behaviour of these mountain gorillas.

Volcanoes National Park is one of the three parks where tracking of the mountain gorillas can be carried out in addition to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda and In Congo. There are however only 800 mountain gorillas remaining in Uganda, Rwanda and Congo.

Therefore Rwanda is encouraging gorilla conservation in volcanoes National Park, which in return will help to increase the number of these gorillas, thus improving on the mountain gorilla trekking safaris to Rwanda. There are currently seven gorillas in Rwanda for trekking and some of these include; Susa, Sabyinyo group, Amahoro group, Umubano group and many other groups.
A gorilla trekking safari to Rwanda will expose you to the members of these groups, since all the gorillas belong to different groups and these include; the Susa group has got 39 members and its one of the largest groups in Rwanda, the Amahoro with its 15 members, Umubano has only 7 members and the Sabyinyo group has 9 members, these groups always group in numbers since mountain gorillas are bound to multiply.
Tracking mountain gorillas in Rwanda depends on the gorilla permit which is got from the booking office. The office will allocate you a particular group to track basing on the availability of the gorilla permits of a particular, these permits are sold on the basis of first come first serve, and therefore it’s advisable to book easy before the time of tracking mountain gorillas.
