Elephants are herbivorous animals in nature however Kidepo Valley National Park has some rare elephant species like Bull Bull that survive on local brew, commonly known as “Kwete”. once it takes this type of alcohol it gets high, very sensitive and destroys a lot of property. Bull Bull supplements its diet with bananas, maize flour, pineapples, porridge or even local brew in any one’s home. Once this elephant smells them, it does everything possible to get the drink including breaking down the house. This is why the locals have decided to stop keeping any food in their houses.

Because Kwete is provided by the local people, Bull Bull now does not join other elephants in the jungle to look for grass, flowers, shrubs, tree leaves, and wild fruits but stays with the locals, interacts with them occasionally and moves through their houses freely to get food and the local brew.

When the weather turns dry and grass dies back, Bull Bull joins others to eat almost any kind of vegetation they can find to the level of knocking down trees to eat their foliage.
