Your trip features a game drive and boat cruise at Rwanda’s Akagera national park, lowland gorilla trekking at kahuzi-Biega National Park and Mount Nyiragongo hiking tour in Virunga National Park Congo

The tour starts with a pick up from Kigali International Airport (closest airport to Congo with daily international flights) for a transfer to a booked accommodation facility close to Akagera National Park. The next day you are driven to Congo in the Eastern side of the country where you go for lowland gorilla trekking the next day. From Kahuzi Biega you continue to Virunga for a hike to Mount Nyiragongo where after you descend from and return to Rwanda. At Akagera National Park in Rwanda you go for a morning game drive then undertake an evening boat cruise. From Akagera National Park, you then take a Kigali city tour and departure flight at Kigali international airport for a departure flight.

DAY 1: On arrival at Kigali international airport, you are picked up by a knowledgeable driver guide for a transfer to a booked accommodation in Kigali.

DAY 2: In the morning, your driver guide picks you up for a drive across Rwanda’s border to Congo’s Bukavu town in Eastern side of the country on a 7-8hours drive.

DAY 3: You are driven in the morning after breakfast for gorilla trekking in Kahuzi Biega National Park.

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport on day 1of your tour, a professional safari guide will be there to ensure your drive to a booked hotel close to Akagera National Park. On arrival, you check in, have dinner and spend the night as you relax from jet lag and get ready for a game drive and boat cruise the next day.

From your lodging facility after having breakfast, your professional driver guide will pick you up for a safari drive to Bukavu in Congo. Driving southward to Cyangugu boarder to Bukavu you take about 7-8hours going past beautiful landscapes. The park has only 5 habituated gorilla families for gorilla trekking by tourists and family allocation is done during the briefing. Gorilla trekking briefing starts at 8:00am by the park rangers where after you get into the jungle in a total of 8 trekkers and armed ranger guides for about 2-5 hours. After spending 1 hour having a great experience that you always imagined, you will return to the park headquarters where you will find your driver guide ready to return you to your lodging facility for relaxation, dinner and an overnight.

Continuing with your tour after an amazing Congo gorilla safari encounter, you will have breakfast then spend the day driving to Goma using a 4x4 safari land cruiser. You will arrive in the evening check in, relax and have an overnight at a booked accommodation facility in Goma town.

You will then start the hike at around 9:00am taking about 6-7 hours to reach the summit depending on your physical fitness level. Mount Nyiragongo in Congo is one of Africa’s recently active stratovolcanoes. Mount Nyiragongo lava lake has ever been known as the most voluminous lava lake. The mountain is about 3,470m high with two distinct lava benches one about 3,175m (10,417ft) and the other at 2,975m (9,760ft). It’s a non-rivaled experience to hike this volcanic mountain on a Congo tour. You will spend the night on the summit cabins where a porter can help with the cooking and carrying luggage.

This morning you bid farewell to Congo and embark on the drive back to Rwanda. You cross the border and get to the beautiful land of a thousand hills in a beautiful back drop. Driving for about 394km taking about 8hours and 30 minutes you arrive to an accommodation facility close to Akagera National Park where you spend the night.

Meeting the early risers, you have chance to sight lions, leopards, antelopes, giraffes, Elephants, Buffalos, bush bucks, Rhinos among many others. After about 2-4 hours on the drive, you go for lunch then after take an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you are rewarded with sight of wildlife like the hippos, crocodiles alongside numerous bird species.
